The effect of imitating bullet hits on various surfaces is very diverse and depends on the required effect, the type of surface and used technologies.
By surface type:
- SBH in wood. Most often performed with the use of pyrotechnic simulators, which are installed in prepared holes or in an overlay on the back of the surface of the scenery. Possible installation on the branches of bushes and trees with their complete or partial destruction, tree trunks, furniture, wooden covers. For the early filming of duplicates in advance, artists are prepared and charged with pyrotechnics overhead false panels or elements of coatings that are quickly replaced with new ones for the next take. The triggering of the SBH in this case leaves a readable hole and spectacular chips in the wood. At the same time, there is a scattering of wooden chips, which represent a certain threat to the actors and members of the crew. In cramped conditions (for safety) pyrotechnic simulators can be replaced by pneumatic systems.
- SBH in metal. This is a landing on the bodies of cars, armored vehicles, metal doors and other metal structures. It is possible to perform the effect of pyrotechnic SBHs, spark pyrotechnic imitators of bullet hits, capsules of spark and dust hits fired from pneumatic quick-fire markers. It is possible to install pyrotechnic and spark pyrotechnic imitators in a thin-walled metal, with their subsequent masking (puttying and painting) - is more often used when shooting with the shooting of cars.
There are methods of staging SBH in other subjects and surfaces, as well as clothing for a person.
Pyrotechnic SBHs. They are divided into explosive (resemble fireworks firecrackers) and spark SBH of different power - triggered by an electric pulse. Explosive SBHs destroy the material and the environment around them with a minimal amount of smoke and almost with no flash, leaving well-read holes and visible damage to the material - similar to the real effects of bullet impact. Spark SBHs are usually not of high power and throw multidirectional beams of sparks characteristic of a ricochet bullet (projectile). Pyrotechnic SBHs can be installed on any surface, materials, objects of props and decorations that require destruction and the formation of bullet holes. This technology has its advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages - the most spectacular and truthful effect of the destruction of objects from the hit of bullets and shells, unattainable by any other method. The loud sound of landing triggering makes actors and stunt men play live scenes.
Disadvantages - is a very dangerous effect and requires high qualification of pyrotechnics. There are known cases of serious injuries of actors and other participants in the filming process with non-observance of safety precautions. When staging difficult and dangerous scenes, you may need to replace the actor with a stunt double and the participation of the stunt director. The effect requires long and time-consuming preparation.
